Florida's Graduation Math Is the Algebra 1 EOC — How to Practice for the B.E.S.T. Test
If your student is in Florida, the B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 EOC (End-of-Course assessment) is the math test that stands between them and a standard high school diploma. Here's the good news: Florida's math graduation gate is Algebra 1 — the exact subject our practice platform covers in depth.
We're a Florida-built Credit-by-Exam prep platform, not a Florida company — but because Algebra 1 is the same core math everywhere, our practice works for B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 EOC prep too. Here's the honest, fact-based breakdown.
What's actually on Florida's Algebra 1 EOC
- When: Students take it when they complete Algebra 1 — for many that's 8th or 9th grade.
- What: The B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 EOC is built on Florida's B.E.S.T. standards for Algebra 1 — linear equations & inequalities, functions, slope and graphing, systems, quadratics, and exponential relationships.
- How to satisfy the requirement: Students must pass the EOC, or earn a qualifying concordant score on another test. For 2025–26 the commonly published concordant scores are SAT Math 420, ACT Math 16, PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 Math 430, or CLT Quantitative Reasoning 14. (There is also an alternate passing score on the B.E.S.T. scale.)
- Didn't pass? Students can retake the EOC, and the concordant-score options above remain available as alternate routes.
(Always confirm the current cut score, concordant scores, and pathways with your school counselor — Florida updates them over time.)
Florida Algebra 1 is the same core math taught everywhere
State standards have different names, but Algebra 1 teaches nearly the same math across the country. Whether your state calls them the B.E.S.T. standards (Florida), Common Core, or the B.E.S.T. standards (Florida), an Algebra 1 course comes back to the same core skills:
- Linear equations & inequalities, and solving for unknowns.
- Functions, function notation, and interpreting graphs.
- Slope, rate of change, and writing linear equations.
- Systems of equations and inequalities.
- Quadratic and exponential relationships.
None of that is Florida-specific. It's the backbone of Algebra 1 everywhere — which is why practice built to those skills travels across state lines.
How our practice helps you prepare
Florida CAP Prep™ gives you an independently authored Algebra 1 question bank plus full-length, timed mock exams, each mapped to the B.E.S.T. standards and modeled after the official Florida EOC format (multiple choice, full length). Because the underlying skills are shared, that same practice drills the exact Algebra 1 core the B.E.S.T. EOC asks about. You get instant scoring and a worked explanation on every question, plus free lessons on topics like slope & linear graphs and quadratic functions.
It's a strong fit for first-time EOC prep and especially for retake prep — repeated, full-length, timed reps with explanations are how you turn shaky areas into confident ones.
Bonus: it also helps the SAT / ACT concordant-score route
Because Florida lets a qualifying SAT or ACT math score stand in for the Algebra 1 EOC, the same platform pulls double duty: our SAT Math practice targets that concordant-score route too. So you can prepare for the EOC and the SAT/ACT route with one $19.99 subscription.
An honest note on alignment
We won't pretend to be Florida's official test. Our material is independently authored and built to the Florida EOC format — we are not affiliated with the Florida Department of Education, the B.E.S.T. assessments, or their test administrator, and we don't reproduce any official test's questions. We also don't claim a precise percentage match to the B.E.S.T. standards or promise a passing score — we focus on the universal Algebra 1 skills the test draws on. Before relying on it, confirm your exact Florida requirements with your school.

B.E.S.T. Achievement Levels — what each score means
Florida reports B.E.S.T. EOC results on a 5-level achievement scale. Each level corresponds to a defined set of skills described in the Florida Department of Education's Achievement Level Descriptions — B.E.S.T. Standards (March 2024). Under Florida Statute, Level 3 is the “On Grade Level” performance standard — the passing threshold for graduation credit.
| Level | Florida B.E.S.T. Label | What it means for Algebra 1 EOC |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Well Below Grade Level | Foundational skills are not yet in place — significant prep needed. |
| 2 | Below Grade Level | Some grade-level skills present but inconsistent — does not yet meet graduation requirement. |
| 3 | On Grade Level (passing) | Meets the graduation standard. Demonstrates expected grade-level mastery. |
| 4 | Proficient | Beyond grade level — strong command of the B.E.S.T. standards. |
| 5 | Exemplary | Most challenging content mastered — advanced performance. |

FAST — how Florida monitors progress through the year
Florida's FAST (Florida Assessment of Student Thinking) isn't a single year-end test. For grades 3-10 ELA and grades 3-8 Math, it's a three-checkpoint progress monitoring system:
- PM1 (Fall) — baseline check, typically late August through September.
- PM2 (Winter) — mid-year check, typically December through January.
- PM3 (Spring) — final accountability test, typically April through May. PM3 is the score that counts for accountability.
For Algebra 1 and Geometry, the format is different — both are End-of-Course (EOC) exams taken once the course is complete, not three-checkpoint PMs. The Algebra 1 EOC is the graduation-required math exam.
The implication for prep: EOC prep is single-shot. You target one comfortable Level 3+ score on a specific test date, not a year-long progression. That's where focused 6-10 week B.E.S.T. standards-aligned practice (which overlaps 70-80% with B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 standards) pays off.
