Is the Florida EOC Free? Yes — and Here's Why Families Still Prepare

It's a fair question, and the honest answer is short: Yes — the Florida End-of-Course (EOC) exam is free for enrolled public-school students. There is no fee to take it. So why do so many families still prepare — and pay to? Because the test being free and passing it are two very different things.

How the EOC actually works

The EOC is computer-based and taken at your student's public school (or a district-designated site), under a proctor, during the state testing windows. It's delivered on Florida's secure state assessment platform — not a website students log into and take on their own from home. For enrolled public-school students, including Florida Virtual School, there's no cost.

(One note: private-school and home-education students may arrange to take an EOC through a district; availability and any fees vary, so confirm with the district.)

So if it's free, why prepare?

For the same reason families prepare for any free-but-high-stakes test — the SAT costs about $60, yet SAT prep is a huge industry. What you're preparing for isn't the price of the test. It's the result.

  • The stakes are real. The Algebra 1 EOC is a graduation requirement, and the Geometry, Biology 1, and U.S. History EOCs each count as 30% of the course grade. Passing matters.
  • The free official materials are thin. The state publishes a handful of sample items — but no full-length practice test, no diagnosis of your weak areas, and no explanations. That gap is exactly where students lose points.
  • Prep is far cheaper than the alternative. A private tutor runs $40–80 an hour. Focused practice with explanations costs a fraction of one session.

What good preparation actually gives you

Not more pressure — more clarity. A full-length practice test shows exactly which reporting categories are costing points, so a student studies only what matters and walks in already familiar with the format. That's the difference between hoping and knowing.

That's what we built Florida CAP Prep™ for: free sample questions on every subject (no signup), full-length mock exams in the real EOC format, and a plain-language explanation after every answer — in five languages. The official test is free; we just help you pass it.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Florida EOC free?
Yes. For enrolled public-school students (including Florida Virtual School), there is no fee to take the End-of-Course exam. It's part of the state assessment program. Private-school and home-education students may arrange it through a district, where availability and any fees vary.
Where do students take the Florida EOC?
At the student's public school or a district-designated site, on a computer, under a proctor, during the state testing windows. It's delivered on Florida's secure assessment platform — not a website students log into and take on their own from home.
Is there a separate online system to take the EOC myself?
No. There's no consumer website where a student self-registers and takes the official EOC on their own. It's administered by the school district in a proctored setting. Online-school (FLVS) students still test at a proctored location.
If the EOC is free, why pay for test prep?
You're not paying for the test — you're paying for the result. The Algebra 1 EOC is a graduation requirement and other EOCs are 30% of the course grade, while the free official materials are just a few sample items. Prep provides full-length practice, diagnosis, and explanations for far less than tutoring.
What does Florida CAP Prep cost?
Free sample questions on every subject with no signup, and full access (unlimited full-length mocks + AI explanations) is $29.99 for six months per subject — a fraction of one tutoring session. The official EOC itself remains free.
