If your student attends a Florida charter school, a common question is: do they still take the End-of-Course (EOC) assessments? The short answer is yes. Florida charter schools are public schools, so their students take the same statewide EOCs — and are held to the same standards — as students in traditional district schools.

Two layers: what's the same, what your school controls

It helps to think of charter EOCs in two layers.

Layer 1 — Statewide rules (identical everywhere)

These are set by the state and are the same at every Florida public school, charter or not:

  • Which EOCs: Algebra 1 and Geometry (B.E.S.T. standards), plus Biology 1 and U.S. History (NGSSS).
  • Passing: Achievement Level 3 or higher on the 1–5 scale.
  • Weight: for Geometry, Biology 1, and U.S. History, the EOC is 30% of the course grade.
  • Graduation: passing the Algebra 1 EOC is a graduation requirement (a concordant score may apply for some students — ask your counselor).

Layer 2 — What your charter handles (logistics)

Within the state's rules, your charter school manages the day-to-day details:

  • The exact test date within each statewide window (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer).
  • Where testing happens and how the school communicates with families.
  • Retake scheduling and support.

For these, ask your charter's front office or counselor directly — policies and calendars can differ school to school.

Earning credit by EOC (CAP)

Florida's Credit Acceleration Program (CAP) lets a public-school student — including a charter student — earn course credit by passing the EOC without taking the course (Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology 1, or U.S. History). If your student is ready to accelerate, ask the school about CAP.

Free EOC practice for charter families

Because the exams are identical statewide, charter students prepare with the exact same material. Florida CAP Prep™ gives free sample questions (no signup) for every EOC subject, plus full-length mock exams with AI explanations:

There's no need to stress — the EOC your charter gives is the same one every Florida public-school student takes, and steady, low-pressure practice makes it very manageable.

Florida CAP Prep is an independent test-preparation service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any charter school, school district, or the Florida Department of Education. Always confirm your school's specific policies and dates with its front office or counselor.
