Florida EOC: How to Talk to Your School Counselor (Question Checklist)
Your school counselor is the single best source for how the End-of-Course (EOC) exams fit your student's plan — dates, retakes, graduation rules, and ways to earn credit. A short, focused meeting answers most questions. Here's a simple checklist to bring.
Questions to ask about the EOC
- Which EOCs will my student take this year, and when? (Florida gives Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer windows; the school sets the exact date.)
- Which EOCs are graduation requirements? (Passing the Algebra 1 EOC is required to graduate.)
- How does the EOC count toward the course grade? (For Geometry, Biology 1, and U.S. History, it's 30% of the final grade.)
- What score passes? (Achievement Level 3 or higher on the 1–5 scale.)
If a retake or alternative is needed
- If my student doesn't pass, when is the next retake? (EOCs are offered in multiple windows through the year.)
- Does my student qualify to use a concordant score (such as SAT or ACT) to meet the Algebra 1 requirement? What score is needed?
- Are testing accommodations available under an IEP or 504 plan, and how do we arrange them?
To get ahead (acceleration)
- Can my student use the Credit Acceleration Program (CAP) to earn course credit by passing an EOC without taking the class?
- How would that fit the four-year plan — dual enrollment, AP, or an extra math/science?
