The calmest way to be ready for a Florida End-of-Course (EOC) exam is a little bit each week over the summer — not a panicked week of cramming. Here's a simple, flexible 8-week plan that works for any EOC subject (Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology 1, or U.S. History) and gets your student comfortably to Achievement Level 3 or higher.

Before you start

Confirm which EOC and when with your counselor (see the 2026–2027 dates →), then aim for just 3–4 short sessions a week. Consistency beats marathon days.

The 8-week plan

Weeks 1–2 — Diagnose & map. Take a full-length practice mock to see where you stand. Note which topics feel shaky. Don't worry about the score — it's your map.

Weeks 3–4 — Rebuild fundamentals. Work the weak topics from your diagnostic, a few questions at a time, reading the explanation for every miss. Understanding > speed at this stage.

Weeks 5–6 — Targeted practice. Mix topics so you practice choosing the right method, not just repeating one. Keep a short list of recurring mistakes and review it each session.

Week 7 — Full mock #2 under timing. Take a timed, full-length mock to build stamina and pacing. Compare to Week 1 — the growth is motivating. Review every miss.

Week 8 — Light review & rest. Revisit your mistakes list and the formulas/reference sheet. Taper off — arrive rested, not exhausted. See the night before the EOC →

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours a week should my student study for the EOC?
Aim for 3–4 short sessions a week over several weeks. Consistent, small practice beats a single cram session — and it's far less stressful.
Does an 8-week plan work for any EOC subject?
Yes. The same structure — diagnose, rebuild fundamentals, targeted practice, timed mocks, light review — works for Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology 1, and U.S. History.
What score is the goal?
Passing is Achievement Level 3 or higher on the 1–5 scale. Use practice mocks to track progress toward it.
When are the EOC testing windows?
Florida offers Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer windows; your school sets the exact date. Confirm with your counselor and plan your weeks backward from it.
Is practice really free?
Yes. Florida CAP Prep offers free sample questions with no signup, plus full-length mock exams with AI explanations.
